Vitreous enamel is a material obtained by fusing powdered glass at a very high temperature. The powders blend, deposit and harden to form a durable, smooth vitreous layer on the gold or silver. Fired enamel is an ancient technique used in jewellery-making and the decorative arts. It has excellent properties – smooth, hard, chemically resistant, durable and difficult to scratch. It also retains its colour and shine at length.
